Will John Kerry be Nominated as the Next Secretary of State by Obama?

Senator John Kerry will most likely be nominated by President Obama for the position of the Secretary of State so as to find a suitable replacement for Hillary Clinton. In welcoming Kerry’s nomination, Republican Senator Bob Corker, said, “If he is nominated, he comes into the position with a world of knowledge. He’s someone who certainly understands how the legislative process works, and I think he will be someone that Congress will want to work with in a very positive way.”

This should come as no surprise as it seems he has settled into the role of the Senate Foreign Committee chairman for a while with mixed results. In addition, he was also vocally supportive of President Obama during the Presidential elections campaigns. Yet the reason why he seems to be next in line is because Susan Rice, U.N Ambassador and Obama’s first choice, decided to withdrawn in anticipating a fierce showdown with Senate Republicans. Some of Kerry’s successes include negotiating with Pakistani and Afghani officials over delicate matters over the last few years while also being able to ratify a nuclear arms reduction treaty in 2010.

Obama and Kerry go back as far back as 2004 when the largely unknown state Senator from Illinois was asked to take the stage at the National Democratic Convention when Kerry was running for President at the time against Bush. Four years later, Obama found  imself in the position where Kerry was but unlike his predecessor, won the elections against McCain. And although Obama is also considering Chuck Hagel for this position as well, Senate colleagues believe that his nomination is almost certain and will be done quickly.
