In a 50-minute interview Nancy Pelosi, it’s clear where her allegiances lie – with Obama, as her portrayal of the President was that of a saint while openly ridiculing the GOP, who according to her, are willing to do just about anything to hurt the President politically.
She expresses her admiration of the President and the oddity of the situation he finds himself in, despite having served in the House for almost 26 years, in saying, “I haven’t seen anything like it. I haven’t seen anything like it. You know why it is. You know why it is. He’s brilliant… he thinks in a strategic way in how to get something done… and he’s completely eloquent. That’s a package that they don’t like.”
Her sharp criticism of the GOP stems from the fact that they do not wish to cooperate and this is clearly evidenced by their intent to shut down the government after September 30, 2013. She doesn’t sound very optimistic about the “debt ceiling” either even though the Speaker, John Boehner, insists that they don’t want to increase the debt ceiling [in order to prevent a default] but in saying so, have everything in place so as to cause one soon.
She goes on to say that it would be best for the business community to convince the Republicans to not do this but instead be more responsible, pass a debt ceiling and work with the Democrats a bit more.
As for complaints that the President is not catering to certain Democrats, she says that since the time she served under Reagan, there’s never been a situation where members of Congress have revealed that they’ve been satisfied with “communication from the White House”.
