Obama Raises Environmental Concerns On Alberta Oil Sands

It’s pretty clear which side Obama is on when it comes to oil sands debate since he very recently suggested that this resource is ‘destructive’ and that there are many questions that have to be answered. All this has come due to the fact that the United States government now has to approve the pipeline the TransCanada Keystone pipeline.

Although the President described Canada to be a friendly exporter with the United States, he also raised questions as to whether this resource is environmentally-friendly or not while referring to these ‘oil sands’ as tar sands.

And in questioning these tar sands, the President also said that it is important for the country to examine the dangers exist with the proposed pipeline that will cost about $ 13 billion as well as extend from Hardisty all the way to Nebraska.

Since the President has no option but to accept the Alberta oil (despite the reservations that he has expressed) which will come via the pipeline due to the fact that he’s wanted to reduce importing oil from Middle East, the remarks made by Michael Ignatieff at a town hall meeting which focused on energy has really made a mark on the President, or so it seems.

However, Alberta Energy spokesman said that these were anything to the relationship between the two countries, and that the President needs to be educated when it comes to the fact that these oil sands (and not tar sands) are indeed, a environmentally safe resource.
