With the Iranian regime posing a threat to the security of Israel and its disputed nuclear program making matters worse, President Obama says that an imminent Israeli attack on Iran has not been decided yet, as the United States continues to work closely with Israel.
In describing his government’s efforts to prevent an attack, the President says, “I don’t think that Israel has made a decision on what they need to do. I will say that we have closer military and intelligence consultation between our two countries than we’ve ever had. We are going to be sure that we work in lockstep as we proceed to try to solve this — hopefully diplomatically.”
Israel fears that once Iran strengthens its nuclear arsenal – a limited military strike will not prevent Iran from launching a nuclear attack on the state of Israel. On the other hand, Israel’s allies are of the opinion that if the country does attack Iran, this will only strengthen the regime in Iran that is in power.
Even though Iran insists that its nuclear capabilities will be used for peaceful purposes, most Western leaders believe that this will culminate in an attack of Israel, and which would lead to the bigger war. This, in turn, will throw the international economy, which is already in turmoil, into further chaos.
While this will have an effect on the price of oil, President Obama believes that the sanctions placed on Iran are working but also thinks that Israel has the right to worry about their security, and will take action if need be, and regardless of political intervention from its allies.
