Obama Family Gets New
Dog
'Bo' a Portuguese Water Dog
More
on the New First Dog Here
Finally the long national wait is over:
We know the identity of the Obama
family pet. The first dog is a 6-month
old Portuguese water dog named Bo.
The dog was given by Sen. Edward
M. Kennedy (D-Mass), who has three
Porties and who lobbied for the breed.
The Obamas decided to name the dog
Bo for two reasons: 1. The girls, Sasha,
7, and Malia, 10, have cousins with a cat
named Bo and 2. First Lady Michelle
Obama's father was nicknamed Diddley,
after the singer Bo Diddley.
The First Dog has tuxedo-black fur,
with a white chest, white paws and a
rakish white goatee. MORE

Obama's Unique Secure Blackberry Device |
|
|
On
February 1, 2009 President Obama was interviewed by NBC live from the
White House to discuss the XLIII Super Bowl.
Obama jokingly compared his "gadget" to a James Bond device.
Obama said his Blackberry "has the works" and "can turn into
a car." "Only a handful" of people have Obama's
e-mail address, but not world leaders, "They know how to reach
me" at the
Oval Office. Security issues required a customized version of the
Blackberry device for President Barack Obama. |

Portion of the Interview RE: Obama's Blackberry
Interviewed by Matt Lauer of NBC
Interviewed
in the Map
Room at the White House
February
1, 2009
Q
We’re here in the Map Room at the White House, with the 44th President
of
the United States. President Obama, it’s great to be with you. How you
doing?
THE PRESIDENT: I’m doing great, Matt, thank you.
PORTION OF INTERVIEW RE: OBAMA'S BLACKBERRY:
Q Let’s talk about the BlackBerry, all right? You got to keep it.
THE PRESIDENT: I did.
Q Can I see it? Do you have it?
THE PRESIDENT: You know, I didn’t bring it down here.
Q No?
THE PRESIDENT: No, it’s like Inspector Gadget -- you know, if
you touched
it, it might blow up.
Q I kind of envision that, it’s like Q in the James Bond -- did
they give you,
like, fingerprint recognition technology or something?
THE PRESIDENT: The works. The works. It turns into a car if I have
to make
a quick getaway. (Laughter.)
Q How many people have that email address?
THE PRESIDENT: A handful. Look, there are security issues
involved, and so
we’ve got to make sure that I’m not creating a situation where, you
know,
potentially people can comprise our system somehow.
Q But, like, world leaders -- can they contact you on that
BlackBerry?
THE PRESIDENT: Typically, world leaders are going to be contacting
me
through the Oval Office. They know how to reach me there.
Q Sasha and Malia?
THE PRESIDENT: Sasha and Malia can always contact me.
Q Oprah?
THE PRESIDENT: Well --
Q Maybe. You’re not going to hook me up, are you?
THE PRESIDENT: Matt, do you want one?
Q No, I want your email address. (Laughter.) I want to communicate
with
you during the game.
THE PRESIDENT: I like your son, I might give it to him -- I’m
not going to
give it to you. Jack, he might get one.
Q Jack, give it to your papa, okay? (Laughter.)

Obama Among Many Recent Left-Handed Presidents |
January
2009 - The First Signings by the President
President
Obama is One of Many Recent Left-Handed US Presidents
US Presidents have a higher than average tendency to be left-handed.
In the 2008 election campaign both John McCain
and Barack Obama ran as left-handed Presidents. In 1992 all three
presidential candidates, George Bush Sr., Ross Perot,
and Bill Clinton were all left-handed candidates. Amazingly, four of the
last five, and six out of the last 12 Presidents have
been left-handed. The national average is only 10%. Scientists say
left-handed people have a "wider scope of thinking",
noting a disproportionately higher number of Nobel Prize winners who are
left-handed. Photos: Using his left hand, US
President Barack Obama signs several documents including his first executive
order and first bill into law. |
