President Barack Obama announced his new strategy for Afghanistan
and Pakistan at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building
on the White Campus on March 27, 2009. Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates were among
the military and cabinet leaders present. A group of Afghan women
business leaders also attended the Washington remarks.
President Obama said that Al-Qaeda was a cancer that could devour
nuclear-armed Pakistan. Obama noted the situation is
increasingly perilous in Afghanistan. President Obama said he will
dismantle and defeat Al Qaeda's safe havens on both sides
of the mountainous border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. President
Obama's plan was well received by the UN Secretary
General and many other world leaders. |

financial institutions to hash out his plans for the economy.
After the White House meetings the senior executives held a news
conference announcing their pledge to work with the President's
financial strategies and stimulus plans to rebound from the recession.
Later that afternoon President Obama departed the
Oval Office for Marine One for a weekend trip to Camp David, his
presidential retreat in the Catoctin Mountains of Maryland. |

President Barack Obama speaks in the Grand Foyer of the White House
on the administration's ongoing plans for the auto industry.
Flanked by cabinet members and government officials President Obama
rejected the plans submitted by both Chrysler and General
Motors. Obama gave Chrysler 30 days to come up with a new plan that
included deeper budget cuts and a merger deal with
Italian auto manufacturer Fiat. General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner resigned
and Obama advised GM to submit a new plan for
re-structuring GM within 60 days. The option of a controlled bankruptcy
of both domestic car makers was discussed by Obama. |

Obama's first overseas trip as President. President Obama last visited
Europe in July 2008 during his presidential campaign. |

is a secure airport for dignitaries north of London, UK. The Obama's
were greeted at the airport by Britain's Charge D'affaires
Richard LeBaron and his wife Jean, and Chancellor Alistair Darling. The
group then left on Marine One for Winfield House the
residence of the US Ambassador to the UK. |
