Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and US Special Envoy to the
Middle East George Mitchell travel to the Egyptian Red Sea
resort for the International Conference in Support of the Palestinian
Economy for the Reconstruction of Gaza. Clinton
and Mitchell also met with Middle East and European ministers and
leaders. The conference received pledges of over $5
billion for Gaza reconstruction. The US insisted these funds do not go
through the hands of Hamas. |

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton meets with Israeli leaders in
Jerusalem on March 3, 2009. Secretary Clinton vows that Palestine
will receive statehood. Some Israeli leaders reject the idea of creating
a Palestinian state. Clinton also visited the Yad Vashem
Holocaust Hall of Remembrance and wrote a message in the museum guest book. |

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton meets with Palestinian President
Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank town of Ramallah.
Clinton said the demolition of Palestinian homes by Israel is a
violation of international law. Clinton also said Israel should
stop construction and remove the blockades in Palestine. The Obama
administration is pushing for Palestinian statehood. |

and PM Erdogan in Ankara, Turkey on March 7, 2009.
Secretary Clinton also did an interview on Turkish TV and laid a wreath
at the mausoleum of Ataturk, modern Turkey's founder.
Turkey is a NATO member country with a strong strategic alliance with
the US. Turkey borders both Iran and Iraq. |

Lula Da Silva in the Oval Office of the White House and later
escorts Da Silva across the South Lawn of the White House to a waiting
limousine. Brazil's President said that he represents a
unique opportunity to revive US ties to Latin American countries. Brazil
holds a large portion of the US Treasury's debt. |

President Barack Obama is given a bowl of shamrocks by Irish Prime
Minister Brian Cowen at the annual Shamrock Ceremony
in the Roosevelt Room of the White House on St. Patrick's Day, March 17,
2009. President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton, US National Security Adviser James Jones, Irish PM Cowen and
Northern Ireland's leaders later met with the media in
the Oval Office of the White House. President Obama appointed Dan
Rooney, the owner of the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers, as
Ambassador to Ireland and praised Irish leaders for sustaining the peace
in Ireland despite recent Irish turmoil. |

President Barack Obama announced his new strategy for Afghanistan
and Pakistan at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building
on the White Campus on March 27, 2009. Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates were among
the military and cabinet leaders present. A group of Afghan women
business leaders also attended the Washington remarks.
President Obama said that Al-Qaeda was a cancer that could devour
nuclear-armed Pakistan. Obama noted the situation is
increasingly perilous in Afghanistan. President Obama said he will
dismantle and defeat Al Qaeda's safe havens on both sides
of the mountainous border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. President
Obama's plan was well received by the UN Secretary
General and many other world leaders. |

Stansted Airport in Essex on Air Force One. Stansted airport
is a secure airport for dignitaries north of London, UK. The Obama's
were greeted at the airport by Britain's Charge D'affaires
Richard LeBaron and his wife Jean, and Chancellor Alistair Darling. The
group then left on Marine One for Winfield House the
residence of the US Ambassador to the UK. |
