Forsyth Tech prepares for Obama visit

Forsyth Tech’s Bolton campus was extremely busy in recent day in preparation for US President Barack Obama’s visit. The faculty members and students dropped by their campus earlier to pick up their tickets to be able to meet Obama on their campus’ 50th anniversary celebrations. Forsyth Technical Community College Chairman of Dental Education department says the she felt very lucky and excited for having been picked to attend the event. The college had to come up with a lottery draw to get select faculty, staff and students to attend because of their hall’s inadequacy to accommodate the college’s entire population.

A staffer named Cindy Weaver recounts that they had to pull names from out of a hat while they were picking invitees to witness the event. Meanwhile, Forsyth Tech President Dr. Gary Green says that Obama’s advance team checked in earlier to count the number of people that would be attending to witness the president give his speech in Bolton campus’ gym. Green adds that they’re all excited and felt honored to have been working to prepare for Obama’s coming. Because of the sheer size of the academe’s population, Green says they had to make the event invitational.

The decision to make the event “invitations only” actually belonged to the White House, which deemed it necessary to limit the number of attendees due to space restrictions. Green adds that the White House really wanted most of the student body to witness the president give his speech. The White House put students attendance on top of their priorities, which shows their dedication to reaching out to the country’s youth.
