Gaga beats Obama

She could run for President one day, if this current trend continues. President Barack Obama was beaten in the Facebook friends race as Lady Gaga racked up a whopping 10,996,842 friends.

President Obama hitherto had been the leading living person on Facebook to have the most amount of friends. However his 9,967,630 friends could not help him pip the sexy singer and as of Tuesday morning, Lady Gaga is the new Facebook friend champion. But she is by no means the ultimate champion. Other non-living entities are far ahead of Gaga and Obama. Ahead of them are the Family Guy (11.1 million), Facebook (12 million), Mafia Wars (12.9 million), Michael Jackson (15.3 million) and Texas Hold ‘Em Poker (20.4 million). The surge in popularity only serves to underline the wave that Gaga has been riding in the last couple of years.

Although it is unclear who operates Lady Gaga’s page on Facebook, it is known that Obama’s page is maintained by Organizing for America, a group that is part of the DNC.

The “Poker Face” star continued her rout of Obama’s popularity by edging over him in the Twitter follower rankings as well. Although both have over 4 million followers, Gaga has the edge with 317,282 more than the President. But that still doesn’t give them the top spots on the micro blogging service. In fact, they hold the fourth and fifth spots. Coming in third is talk show host and “American Idol” judge Ellen DeGeneres, in second place is Ashton Kutcher and in the number one slot is everybody’s favorite dysfunctional pop star Britney Spears. Britney stands supreme in the rankings with a whopping 5.2 million followers.
