The objective of the Obama administration is to defeat Al-Qaeda, and although there are ongoing efforts with Pakistan for several years now, there doesn’t seem to be any progress since there doesn’t seem to be any clear path that has been drawn out to do so, and which has caused them to make a harsh assessment of the Pakistan’s efforts in the matter.
All this comes at a time when Obama is scheduled to withdraw troops from Afghanistan ever since the plan was to block the Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan in such a manner that both the Al-Qaeda and the Taliban could be caught at the Pakistani border.
However, this strategy has been anything but a success and with almost a year gone by US officials have expressed frustration over the situation but only have been public about now.
According to a 38-page report on the war, the Pakistani military has not been able to clear militants in Mohmand, located in Northwest Pakistan for the third time in two years. Strangely enough, the country cannot keep its helicopters flying but what makes it even more singular is that the Pakistani military has not been willing to accept assistance from the US military for the maintenance of their helicopters that are being used for ‘clearing areas of any return of insurgency’.
Despite the deployment of almost 147000 troops, the lack of any efforts from Pakistan continues to be a thorn in the Obama administration’s side, and this has caused for them to come to the conclusion that no assistance is being offered.
