Romney isn’t doing himself or the GOP any favors by taking an approach that accuses Obama and his wife as being ‘anti-American’, and which is similar to Michele Bachmann’s messaging strategy in 2008.
To make matters worse, one of Romney’s top aides also went as far as to say that he wished the President would learn how to be an American.
If that’s not enough, Rush Limbaugh, the conservative radio host, being rather explicit with his views sums it up by saying, “President Barack Obama ‘hates this country’ and his philosophy appeals to ‘people with miserable, meaningless lives’ and people who don’t count. He is trying, Barack Obama is trying, to dismantle, brick-by-brick, the American dream. There’s no other way to put this. There’s no other way to explain this.”
For the GOP, this is no laughing matter, as these accusations of considering Obama’s methods as foreign will only further alienate the Latinos if not also the independents and women as well.
Experts speculate that Romney needs at least 40 % of the Latino votes to win the election yet thanks to this reckless strategy adopted by the GOP, a recent Latino Voices poll indicates that Obama now enjoys 70 % to Romney’s 22 % of the Latino vote – doing better than the 67 % who supported him in 2008.
What the results of this poll also indicates is that the Obama campaign has been successful in reminding Latino voters of what the President has done for them over the past few years right from Healthcare Reform to the Recovery Act and in recent times, temporary relief to almost 1 million ‘dreamers despite stiff opposition from the Republicans.
