President Barack Obama’s campaign informed the Federal Election Commission that $ 43.6 million had been raised in terms of campaign funds for the month of April.
So far, the President has about $ 115.7 million in the bank and which is not very far from the figures that he raised four years ago when contesting against Hilary Clinton.
Obama continued to receive donations of $ 200 or less, and which has amounted to $ 10.7 million in contributions while also transferring $ 4.5 million from a joint fundraising account with the Democratic National Committee.
Interestingly, these April figures are much lesser than the funds raised in March, which amounted to about $ 53 million. According to Obama campaign, 98 % of the funds towards his re-election have come from small donations.
On the other hand, Romney’s figures amount to about $ 40.1 million, with about $ 61.4 million cash to hand. These figures also include donations made for amounts of $ 250 and below by independent support groups, and is close to the amount that the Obama campaign had registered for April to the amount of $ 10.1 million.
For months now, Romney has been considered by most experts to be the most likely Republican nominee to run against Obama in the November 2012 elections. April is the first month of major fundraising for the November general elections.
Romney’s figures were revealed the day after the Obama campaign released their figures as it is required for both campaigns to file financial reports in the build-up to the Presidential elections.
