Obama reveals Wireless Expansion Plan

Following his State of the Union address last month where Obama stated that he wanted at least 98 percent of Americans to have high speed wireless coverage in five years, his visit to the campus of North Michigan University in Marquette further emphasized that an expanding wireless network will also be the key to economic recovery in the future.

In order to make this dream a reality, President Obama has also revealed details of how he intends to make this work in the future, primarily by doubling the wireless spectrum for mobile broadband which will raise about $ 27.8 billion in the next decade through auctions along with the efficient government use of the spectrum itself.

And while the President’s plan might be considered visionary because he wants to bring opportunity to almost anyone who has access to high-speed wireless, experts are a bit skeptical about whether these figures of profit are actually accurate or not as the funds raised from these auctions can vary, thus still raising questions about whether this plan will work or not.

If that’s not enough, the President has also introduced the idea of a high-tech wireless public safety system that will keep every citizen connected in the case of another terrorist attack in his proposed budget where he details out the spending involved in research as well at a time when the Republicans want to cut spending even further.

And perhaps this is the reason why the President chose to visit Northern University of Michigan in the first place as their efforts in expanding wireless access for students and for people in surrounding areas has been a large part of their ‘focus’.
