UK fears Obama retaliation

U.K. is in fear that with President Barack Obama sitting in power, London’s ties with the US may be compromised because of historical events that occurred to the president’s grandfather during his stay in the European country. According to leaked diplomatic documents that were once top secret, Obama’s grandfather was ill-treated while he spent time in Great Britain. British officials are worrying that their relationship with the US may come under fire, partly due to the president’s youth and lack of political involvement during World War II and the Cold War.

The country’s government is also worried that past treatment by British colonial forces of Hussein Obama, the president’s grandfather, and his jail sentence up to Kenya’s independence, would spark some form of retaliation from the former Kentucky representative. These were all revealed in a leaked cable dated back in February 9 last year as part of almost a quarter of a million top secret diplomatic documents that were released by the WikiLeaks website. The cable further says that despite the conditions enveloping US-Britain ties being under constant and extreme scrutiny, the British public, as well as the media, pundits and parliamentary members are still worried.
Their fears are centered on the possibility that the US government neglect relations with their country under the leadership of Gordon Brown because of so many troublesome elements. One such element is the Brown administration’s backing of the past Bush government’s policies for foreign relations as well as the displeasure of the US public with Britain’s military shortcomings in Iraq and Afghanistan.
