President Obama has vetoed two bills in Congress, the fewest that any U.S President has done over several decades.
However, in his State of the Union address, he categorically stated that he would veto four more bills in particular – stiffer Iran sanctions, the Affordable Care Act, Wall Street and immigration.
Having said that, here are 8 bills that Obama has threatened to veto:
#1: Keystone XL Pipeline
Approve construction of oil pipeline between Canada and the United States Gulf Coast where the Senate is working on the final amendments.
#2: Regulatory Accountability Act of 2015
Create tougher requirements to write federal regulations that has passed the House and should pass the Senate as well.
#3: Save American Workers Act of 2015
Increase the number of work hours from 30 to 40 in order to qualify for employer-provided health insurance that has passed the House but looks unlikely in the Senate.
#4: No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act
This bill will ban taxpayer that funds abortion that has passed the House but will not pass the Senate.
#5: Promoting Job Creation and Reducing Small Business Burdens Act
Weaken a number of provisions in the Frank-Dodd financial overhaul passed in 2010 which has passed the House but won’t pass the Senate.
#6: Natural Gas Pipeline Permitting Reform Act
This bill requires a decision on applications for pipeline projects within the period of 12 months that has passed the House but will stall in the Senate.
#7: Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act
This bill wants to overturn Obama’s 2014 executive action that has protected a number of undocumented immigrants which has passed the House but won’t do so in the Senate.
#8: Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act
Will ban abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy. It was pulled from the House but will be amended and brought up again later.
