Wild Fish versus Farmed Fish

In the article “Aquaculture’s Troubled Harvest,” Bruce Barcott reveals the dangers of the fish farming industry. While the industry has been causing problems around the world, the writer follows the story of when it was first introduced in British Columbia and why so many people want to end fish farming.

According to the article, when farmers first settled in the Broughton Archipelago, remote islands 250 miles north of Vancouver, the people were looking forward to what the industry had to offer. At the time, they hoped it would provide new jobs and keep the “community alive.”

However, they soon discovered that fish farming caused many problems. According to the article, there are conflicts over farm fishing across the globe, including in Chile, Scotland, New Brunswick, and Maine, to name a few. The article looks at why the industry continues to grow despite its environmental problems. The people who want to end the farming are mainly fishermen and environmentalists.
