With a rush of users visiting Healthcare.gov, government officials stated that the website did what it was meant to do despite running into technical issues when it was first launched in October 2013.
Julie Bataille, a spokesperson for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, revealed the administration’s thoughts in a blog post, which read, “There’s no question that, over this past weekend, Monday, and Tuesday, HealthCare.gov met the mark and did exactly what it was supposed to do — helping Americans from across the country find secure, quality health insurance coverage at an affordable price.”
Even though the poor performance of the website continued until November, it handled more than 2 million visits only keeping some people waiting to use the site so as to fill out their medical forms.
The reason for this sudden spike in visitors was due to a number of people wanting to beat the signing up deadline before the New Year began.
Even though the timeline set to sign up for Obamacare has been set for March 31, a number of Americans faced a coverage gap in the month of January as their existing healthcare plans do not meet the law’s coverage requisites.
Bataille went on to say that the wait times lasted only five to ten minutes along with the option of being sent an email which informed as to when they could come back and complete the paperwork. About 129000 applicants took this option and were invited back the same day to fill out their forms.
On Christmas Eve, however, the site had about 880000 visits but only this time, the users did not have to wait.
