Obama, in his State of the Union address, declared that the financial crisis was over apart from making economic pledges that will benefit all Americans in the years to come.
In his address, Obama summed it up, in saying, “But tonight, we turn the page. Tonight, after a breakthrough year for America, our economy is growing and creating jobs at the fastest pace since 1999. Our unemployment rate is now lower than it was before the financial crisis. More of our kids are graduating than ever before. More of our people are insured than ever before. And we are as free from the grip of foreign oil as we’ve been in almost 30 years.”
Even though it was clear that Obama outlined a plan that would appeal to working class families, it’s going to be difficult considering that the Republican Party control Congress, thanks to winning the mid-term elections.
Apart from this, Obama was clear about its foreign policy in stating that it had the right to act unilaterally when it came to hunting terrorists. He also added that the United States had supported Ukraine during its fight against pro-Russian separatists, which left Russia alone and reduced its economy to its worst.
In another part of his speech, he also claimed that the United States had experienced its fastest growth ever in a decade and reiterated that middle-class economics works. Finally, he also stated that in the effort to build a competitive economy, build America’s infrastructure while also providing free access to community college.
And while the administration decided to close tax loopholes over the weekend, Republicans were quick to label this move as ‘class warfare’.
