The United States is in discussion with its European allies as to whether it should impose harsher sanctions on Russia, given the conflict it is embroiled in in Eastern Ukraine.
Kerry, United States Secretary of State, explains the next steps, in saying, “In the next few days I anticipate that President Obama will evaluate the choices that are in front of him and will make his decision as to what the next step will be. There are serious discussions taking place between us and our European allies as to what those next sanctions steps ought to be and when they ought to be implemented. I am confident some additional steps will be taken in response to the breaches of the ceasefire.”
After speaking with his British counterpart, Philip Hammond, in London, Kerry also said that Obama was considering whether they should arm Ukranian forces or even impose deeper sanctions against Russia for breaching a Feb. 12 truce set up by European leaders.
He also said that Obama will evaluate the choices in front of him and decide what the next steps will be in the following days.
In the meanwhile, Kiev has accused the Kremlin of sending tanks and troops to Novoazovsk that is currently held by rebels and which could build up to the next battle in the region.
Alternatively, the Kremlin has denied accusations that its troops are fighting in Ukraine while not responding to allegations either.
Kerry, in his speech, said that the biggest violation of the ceasefire occurred when the city of Debaltseve was assaulted apart from military supplies being sent to separatists by Moscow.
