Obama’s Nigerian half-brother, Malik Abongo “Roy” Obama, has sold a letter written to him by Obama in July 1995. It explains the reasons why Obama got into politics the first place – one of them being serious issues that blacks face in the United States.
In the letter written 20 years ago, Obama says, “Some colleagues of mine here have talked me into running for the Illinois State Senate (like being an MP for a province). I have agreed, since I have an interest in politics to deal with some serious issues blacks face here.”
In the letter, the President also reveals his dislike for meetings and campaigning that isn’t as ‘attractive’. However, he also mentions that this is a part-time post which he will take up if he wins while continuing his practice as a lawyer.
In the letter, he also writes about Michelle Obama and his mother who died later that year. He mentions that his mother’s health had stabilized but she was by no means cured. Apart from this, he also talks about his brother’s finding of a new wife.
A collector has purchased the letter even though his half-brother offered it to LA-based memorabilia dealer, Moments in Time.
Malik has also sold another two letters written to him by President Obama in 2013 and for which he received $15,000 each. He reveals that they had been best men at both their weddings.
That said, it was only earlier this year that he considered Obama to not be an honest man as he says he is. In particular, he called Obama a ‘schemer’. The letter was sold for an undisclosed amount. Of course, the White House declined to comment.
