Hester Maria Peirce, Commissioner, Securities and Exchange Commission
Hester Maria Peirce is a Senior Research Fellow and Director of the Financial Markets Working Group at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, a position she has held since 2012. Previously, Ms. Peirce served as Senior Counsel for the Minority Staff of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs from 2008 to 2011. From 2000 to 2008, Ms. Peirce served at the Securities and Exchange Commission, first as a Staff Attorney in the Division of Investment Management from 2000 to 2004 and then as Counsel to Commissioner Paul Atkins from 2004 to 2008. From 1998 to 2000, she was an Associate at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering, now known as WilmerHale. She was a law clerk for Judge Roger Andewelt on the U.S. Court of Federal Claims from 1997 to 1998. Ms. Peirce received her B.A. from Case Western Reserve University and her J.D. from Yale Law School.
