Considering recent events, it can be safely said that things are looking bad for Obama. First, it was the Obamacare disaster. Next, allegations of the NSA spying on European leaders. Then, the government shutdown which has effectively caused harm to the economy. Finally, a poll which reveals Obama’s highest disapproval rating ever.
If the situation he finds himself in could be a movie: he could play the part of the hero who cannot find any escape routes and is seriously outnumbered and outgunned, if you will.
While it’s good that the script of this movie hasn’t been written out yet, it looks like he might not be the one who’s writing it either.
Let’s face it: Obama isn’t able to write his own story, thanks to a number of other people influencing it at the moment. For one, the GOP, who clearly intends to give no quarter to just about anything he wants.
In particular, it’s a hyper-partisan Congress that he has to deal with, and if there aren’t any changes soon, none of his proposals in the State of the Union speech can gain any traction namely background checks for guns as well as immigration and income tax reform.
Which is why it’s time for Obama should opt for a ‘go out with guns blazing’ approach until the end of his second term. This would include taking back the House in 2014 which would be easier ever since the Republicans were blamed for the government shutdown.
He shouldn’t refrain from using executive orders to achieve his objective even if Republicans would call him a tyrant.
So, will the President write his own story or will he allow others to do it for him?
Let’s hope it’s the former.
