A hitherto unknown Urologist is suddenly at the center of a media storm due to a small sign that he has hung in his office. Dr. Jack Cassell, a resident of Mount Dora, Florida has declared war against Obama’s healthcare policy. The good doctor has a sign hanging on his door which boldly states “If you voted for Obama . . . seek urological care elsewhere. Changes to your healthcare begin right now, not in four years.”
Cassell is walking a tightrope with this argument as he is ethically and legally bound to treat patients without any discrimination. But the doctor is quick to point out that he does not actively turn away any patients based on their political views or affiliations. However if he did chose to, he would not be breaking any civil rights laws as they do not address such discriminations in terms of healthcare. Cassell also insists that he does not ask his patients about the way they voted or about their political views. He claimed that all he was doing was displaying his disgust at the bill and lawmakers who enabled it to exist.
The doctor also provides helpful leaflets which outline Republican measures for healthcare that he feels are better suited for the country. According to Cassell, the response to his blunt statement has been overwhelmingly positive and points that out as evidence that the people know “it’s not good for them”.
The Florida Medical Association has declined to comment specifically on the matter except to say that physicians have the right to free speech just like everyone else in the U.S.
