Given a US District Judge’s decision to block the President’s unilateral move to prevent million of illegal immigrants from being deported, implementation of this plan has delayed by the Obama administration.
In response to this setback, Obama said, “The law is on our side and history is on our side. We will be prepared to implement this fully as soon as the legal issues get resolved.”
Without a doubt, this puts the plight of 11 million lives in jeopardy but the President said he will comply with the order made by the judge to delay accepting applications from illegal immigrants for work permits and deportation relief.
Obama also said that this preliminary injunction will be appealed at the majority conservative 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals located in New Orleans.
Hanen, the judge in question, has issued this ruling amidst a fight between a Republican-led US Congress that will only release funding for the Department of Homeland Security based on whether Obama’s immigration actions are nullified.
Since this court order is preliminary one, it doesn’t look like either the Republicans or Democrats will back down from their demands.
As for Obama’s executive orders, it will allow 4.7 million illegal immigrants to remain in the United States without any threat of deportation and which is directed at assisting 4.4 million children who are legal permanent residents or US citizens.
Another 270000 people, mainly children, will also be provided deportation relief, thanks to the expansion of a 2012 program as they were brought to the country illegally.
Republicans are of the opinion that Obama has overstepped his authority as President with his healthcare law, U.S-Cuba policy as well as his immigration policy as well.
