Obama picking up speed

President Barack Obama came into power on a message of hope and change. This was message was his greatest strength, but it also caused his drop in popularity a year into assuming office.

Hope is a powerful substance. When you feed it to people they expect great things in return. Obama’s message was not only powerful, it was intoxicating as well. You cannot find fault with the people when they expect two military conflicts and an economic crisis to disappear overnight when the message is so strong. Granted, the expectation is unrealistic but that is what Obama has to deal with.

To his credit he is making his way, albeit slowly, towards fulfilling his promises. What the people have to understand is that, unlike in a Dictatorship, getting things done in a Democracy is difficult. Obama may have dropped down in the approval ratings, but it is only a matter of time before he gets back up there again.

As President he has brought in Healthcare reform (by one way or another), took a great leap in foreign relations with the old enemy Russia by signing a nuclear arms reduction treaty, is getting tough with Iran and even Israel. As he works towards creating more jobs and pulling America out of the recession, Obama is starting to walk the talk. The likelihood is that we will see his efforts bearing fruit closer to the end of his term and a second term in office depends heavily on that factor.
