The Obama administration is actively seeking the support of liberals so as to push the Iran deal through.
Prior to this, both Joe Biden and President Obama have reached out to House Democrats to support the Iran deal to no avail.
With signs of no movement on that front, Obama spoke with liberal groups such as Credo Action, Organizing for Action and the Center for American Progress over the phone.
During this conversation with his supporters, the President said, “As big of a bully pulpit as I have, it’s not enough. I can’t carry it by myself. The facts are on our side, but the politics are going to be tough if all of you don’t get involved and get active.”
He also warned them that if his allies didn’t speak up, the people who got the United States into the Iraq War will “sink the Iran deal” as well. The deal, in question, will raise sanctions on Iran in exchange for scaling back its nuclear program.
In speaking of his fellow Democrats, he says that even though they do not buy their opponents’ arguments, they are still wavering under pressure. This is because of their opposition being well-financed, fierce and relentless.
He also adds that their opponents are spending almost $20 million on advertisements to lobby against the deal. They are also making several calls while sending lawmakers several letters to put them under pressure.
This call was an effort on the part of both Biden and Obama before Congress leaves Washington for its August recess. The objective is to get voters to apply pressure on lawmakers to side with the Iran deal as prepared by the Obama administration.
No matter what the Republicans want, he doesn’t want the deal to be undone by members from his own party.
