Prior to Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the United States, President Obama gave an interview where he not only attacked the Israeli Prime Minister but also said that he was the reason for a failure in the peace process.
In also talking well of the Palestinian Authority President, Obama said, “I have to commend President Abbas. He has been somebody who has consistently renounced violence, has consistently sought a diplomatic and peaceful solution that allows for two states, side by side, in peace and security; a state that allows for the dignity and sovereignty of the Palestinian people and a state that allows for Israelis to feel secure and at peace with their neighbors.”
However, reports that Abbas has ousted the only true Palestinian reformer, Salam Fayyad and has not only stayed in office beyond the allotted term but also doesn’t want to hold elections.
But most of all, making the ‘right of return’ for every Palestinian, Abbas believes that the PLO cannot negotiate or even sign an agreement that limits or defeats this right. This stance by the PLO will ensure that there will be no agreement.
As for the meeting with Obama, Abbas rejected the Kerry’s framework document that resumes peace talks with Israel with three nos’ on core issues.
Based on which, experts believe that Obama is either misrepresenting the facts or has no affection for the Jewish State, blaming them when things have gone wrong.
Without a doubt, if these current talks fail, the Palestinians will carry out a ‘diplomatic intifada’ and which is why Israel and its allies should reveal the President’s dishonesty.
