In matters of snappy comebacks, President Obama finally has one for Republicans that refer to his healthcare bill as ‘Obamacare’ in a derogatory manner.
In a fundraising event recently held in Dallas, he said: “Obamacare. That’s right — I care. That’s their [Republicans] main agenda? That’s your plank? Is making sure 30 million people don’t have health insurance?”
Although his verbal retorts have been late in coming, Obama has turned over a new leaf, if you will. His nationwide tour to promote the American Jobs Act finds him defending his health care policy, among others, aggressively.
This is due to GOP Presidential candidates promising to roll back ‘Obamacare’ during campaigns and debates, with Romney even promising to repeal the federal law on his first day in office. Ironically, the pick of the GOP candidates for the Presidential elections next year, has promoted a similar health care law in his state of Massachusetts.
Yet another issue that the Republicans are bringing up is raising taxes for Americans with higher income, terming this as ‘class warfare’. The President, quite deftly, has responded by saying that if his desire of seeing every American pay equal taxes makes him ‘a warrior for the middle-class’, then it’s a badge that he will wear proudly.
Interestingly, Obama and his supporters have backed ‘Obamacare’ as it provides health insurance for almost 1 million young Americans as it allows them to stay on their parents’ insurance plans.
And it seems as if the President has no plans of letting up, as he used the same retort in St. Louis by saying, “They call it Obamacare? I do care! You should care, too.”
