The Vice President spoke with Peruvian President Ollanta Humala today regarding the July 28-31 meeting of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade ministers in Maui, Hawaii. The Vice President and President Humala agreed to work together to conclude a high-standards agreement that opens up markets and provides protections for labor and the environment. The Vice President also praised President Humala for Peru’s leadership on regional and global issues, including economic integration and climate change, and underscored U.S. commitment to working with Peru to promote broad-based economic growth. The Vice President and President Humala also covered a broad set of bilateral topics, including cooperation on educational exchanges, science and technology, and citizen security; and agreed to maintain an active dialogue on holistic approaches to counter drug trafficking.
